It all started in Chicago
October 22nd 1895.

"Arnold, Schwinn & Company"

By 1896. Schwinn starts its racing program.

1899. "Mile-a Minute Murphy" is the first man to go 60 mph. on a Schwinn

1900. Six day races become the rage
Board tracks spring up everywhere
And people start Bicycle Clubs

1908. Ignaz Schwinn has a baby "Frank Schwinn"
Schwinn buys out his partner "Arnold" and becomes the sole owner
Schwinn Corp.

1909. A new market is born
Kids start riding bikes. Schwinn starts building stronger bikes for the kids to mash.

1911. Schwinn buys Excelsior Motorcycle Company.

1917. Schwinn buys Henderson Motorcycle Company

1925. Mudguards are the major technological achievement
and Schwinn goes through the "Depression"

1930. Road maps are utilized to show bicyclists new places to explore away from their homes.

1933. Schwinn introduces the balloon tire 26x2.125

1934. The Schwinn Aerocycle, styled to resemble airplanes, "streamline".

1935. Schwinn makes a bicycle lock

1936.The "Auto Cycle" Deluxe balloon tire bicycle
featuring the Schwinn full floating saddle and seat post,
Plus twin headlights and speedometer.

1939. The "Cycle Truck"
A delivery bicycle built from 1940 until the mid 60's
and still in use today

1943. Schwinn produces military items, including top secret electrical devices,
shells, ammunition, plane parts
and numerous other war-related items.
Schwinn receives the Army and Navy "E" award of excellence.

1946. Built-in kickstands and new styled drop-outs
developed during the war, now improve post-war bikes.

1947. August 17th The Schwinn building catches on fire.

1949. The Schwinn Black Phantom is introduced as the top of the balloon tire line.
fenders and horn, tank, whitewall tires, head and tail lights, spring fork deluxe and more.
A classic in the making.

1952. Schwinn begins an "Authorized Dealer Network"
and expands the genuine parts and accessories program.

1955. Roy Rogers, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Ronald Reagan
and all the stars from Hollywood's "golden era" Choose Schwinn Bikes !

1960. Schwinn introduces the Varsity 8-speed
and Continental 10-speed bicycles.

1963. Schwinn introduces the Sting Ray.
With high-rise handlebars,banana seat, stick shift and racing sliks,
it becomes the "in" style machine.

1967. January 1st Arnold, Schwinn & Company becomes the "Schwinn Bicycle Company"

1968. Sting Ray Krates
The Sting Ray is the machine that will father the BMX bicycles of the 1980's

1975. The BMX craze is in full gear as bike riders head toward the dirt.

1993. Schwinn files bankruptcy

1994. Schwinn moves from Chicago to Boulder, Colorado

1998. Schwinn re-introduces its muscle car inspired Sting-Ray and Krate bicycles

1998. Two old rivals form a lucrative alliance as
Schwinn and GT bicycles join forces to form the Schwinn/GT Corporation.

2001. The end of Schwinn
Bankruptcy court finalizes the closing of Schwinn September 11th 2001

2001. Schwinn is now PacificCycle,
Still using the Schwinn name.
